Mission

Today, a pair of spacewalkers completed the mission's fifth extravehicular activity (EVA#5).

During the EVA#5, the spacewalkers attached the orbiter boom sensor system (OBSS) to the station's S1 truss and installed the Materials ISS Experiment (MISSE-6) on the Columbus laboratory, and inspected the station's starboard Solar Alpha Rotary Joint (SARJ).

In addition, they installed Multi-Layered Insulation (MLI) covers on the trunnion pins of the Experiment Logistics Module-Pressurized Section (ELM-PS). The trunnion pin is used for fastening payload into the shuttle's payload bay upon launch.

Astronaut Doi's on orbit activity

During the EVA#5, astronaut Doi took photos and videos of the EVA activities. He also manipulated the space shuttle's robotic arm (SRMS) to hand over the OBSS to the space station's robotic arm (SSRMS). The OBSS was stowed on the station's S1 truss during the EVA#5.

He also replaced the battery of the Carbon Dioxide Monitor (CDM), and conducted the final configuration check of the ELM-PS at the end of the day.
