Short-term harvest of the SpaceSeed performed onboard Kibo (October 15, 2009)

Short-term harvest of JAXA's long-term plant growth experiment, SpaceSeed, was performed onboard Kibo over the night of October 13, 2009.

SMILES's Initial Checkouts Began (September 25, 2009)

The Superconducting Submillimeter-Wave Limb-Emission Sounder (SMILES), jointly developed by JAXA and NICT, was installed on Kibo's Exposed Facility (EF) on September 25, 2009. Following the installation, the SMILES team activated the SMILES and began its initial function checkouts.

SEDA-AP Began Nominal Operations (September 19, 2009)

The Space Environment Data Acquisition equipment - Attached Payload(SEDA-AP) successfully completed initial checkouts and entered into its nominal operations phase.

JAXA's long-term plant growth experiment, began onboard Kibo (September 11, 2009)

JAXA's long-term plant growth experiment, Space Seed, began onboard Kibo.

MAXI successfully captured First Light images (August 18, 2009)

On August 15, 2009, MAXI has successfully captured the First Light images.

Initial function checkouts of MAXI and SEDA-AP began (August 5, 2009)

Initial function checkouts of MAXI and SEDA-AP began on orbit.

MEIS (Marangoni convection experiment) Series2 Begins (August 3, 2009)

Aboard Kibo, Marangoni convection experiment (MEIS) Series2, which uses the Fluid Physics Experiment Facility (FPEF) in the RYUTAI rack, began on July 31, 2009.

FACET crystal growth experiment completed onboard Kibo (July 13, 2009)

FACET (Investigation on Mechanism of Faceted Cellular Array Growth)* which has been conducted onboard Kibo since April 9, 2009 was completed on June 12, 2009.

FACET, JAXA's crystal growth experiment, began onboard Kibo (April 16, 2009)

FACET (Investigation on Mechanism of Faceted Cellular Array Growth)*, which is the science experiment to be performed onboard Kibo, has been started.

  • Gene expression of p53-regulated Genes in Mammalian Cultured Cells after Exposure to Space Environment (Rad Gene)
  • Detection of Changes in LOH Profile of TK mutants of Human Cultured Cells
    (LOH)
  • Control of cell differentiation and morphogenesis of amphibian culture cells (Dome Gene)
