Short-term harvest of JAXA's long-term plant growth experiment, SpaceSeed, was performed onboard Kibo over the night of October 13, 2009.
The Superconducting Submillimeter-Wave Limb-Emission Sounder (SMILES), jointly developed by JAXA and NICT, was installed on Kibo's Exposed Facility (EF) on September 25, 2009. Following the installation, the SMILES team activated the SMILES and began its initial function checkouts.
The Space Environment Data Acquisition equipment - Attached Payload(SEDA-AP) successfully completed initial checkouts and entered into its nominal operations phase.
JAXA's long-term plant growth experiment, Space Seed, began onboard Kibo.
On August 15, 2009, MAXI has successfully captured the First Light images.
Initial function checkouts of MAXI and SEDA-AP began on orbit.
Aboard Kibo, Marangoni convection experiment (MEIS) Series2, which uses the Fluid Physics Experiment Facility (FPEF) in the RYUTAI rack, began on July 31, 2009.
FACET (Investigation on Mechanism of Faceted Cellular Array Growth)* which has been conducted onboard Kibo since April 9, 2009 was completed on June 12, 2009.
FACET (Investigation on Mechanism of Faceted Cellular Array Growth)*, which is the science experiment to be performed onboard Kibo, has been started.
In August 2008, JAXA's science operations began aboard Kibo.
Until now, the following four experiment programs have been conducted.
