MFD Status Report

August 8, 20:00 CDT



The Manipulator Flight Demonstration (MFD) test aboard the Space Shuttle Discovery which was launched from NASA Kennedy Space Center on August 7, 9:41 (CDT) started today. After the MFD system activation at 9:23 (CDT) and completed checkout, part of the Orbital Replacement Unit (ORU) detachment test and the performance control of the unloaded (without ORU) robot arm was conducted by Mission Specialist Jan Davis aboard Space Shuttle Discovery. One of the piggyback payloads of MFD, the Two-Phase Fluid Loop Experiment (TPFLEX) was activated August 7 15:25 (CDT). After activation, the parameter data of the heater was not as expected, but is now functioning well.
