For the prioritization of Kibo utilization, JAXA has defined its Kibo Utilization scenarios toward 2020, in the fields of "life science", "space medicine", and "physical science" based on an international research trend and our current achievements of the ISS program and Kibo. The scenarios summarize prioritized areas for each research field in order to generate research results with fundamental researches on Kibo.
This time, in addition to the traditional application to accept "General Research Proposals" (any experiment proposals based on freewheeling thinking), we newly accepted "Prioritized Research Proposals" that must satisfy the prioritized goals in the above scenarios.
In 2012, JAXA invited experiment proposals, and 3 themes for "Prioritized Research Proposals" and 5 themes for "General Research Proposals" were selected.
