On the flight day five (FD5), the Integrated Cargo Vertical Light Deployable (ICC-VLD) was removed from space shuttle Endeavour's payload bay, and was temporarily placed on the Payload and Orbital Replacement Unit Accommodation (POA) on the Mobile Base System (MBS).

Although this task was initially planned for FD 6, it was completed a day early because the focused inspection of the shuttle's Thermal Protection System (TPS) was decided unnecessary. The ICC-VLD carries spare parts for exposed equipments in use on ISS and batteries for the power supply system.

Other activities for the day included calibration of Kibo's robotic arm (JEM RMS) camera in preparation of transferring exposed elements carried on the ELM-ES, and preparations for the 2nd Extravehicular Activity (EVA#2), scheduled for FD6.

Earlier today, the Waste and Hygiene Compartment (WHC) malfunctioned and the troubleshooting is underway. The astronauts will temporarily use the other toilets located in the Russian service module "Zvezda" and the space shuttle Endeavour until the WHC is fixed.

Activities for FD6 include:

  • EVA #2
