Flight Day 16 (May 2CDT)


The crew cabin stowage activity
The STS-90 crew members were awakened at 3:29 a.m. (CDT), and began Flight Day 16 activities.

The crew members wrapped up the science mission when they completed the final run of the experiment to measure the response of human eyes and inner ears in maintaining balance in a weightless environment. This experiment uses the Visual Vestibular Investigation System (VVIS), which is a rotating chair. The crew members performed cabin stowage activities and prepared for their return to Earth tomorrow.

The crew will go to sleep at approximately 7:10 p.m. (CDT) this evening and receive a wake up call from Mission Control Center (MCC) tomorrow morning at 3:10 a.m.

Status of Japan related experiments

For the seventh time during this flight, the "Spatial Orientation of the Vestibulo-Ocular Reflex" experiment was conducted using the VVIS. Payload Specialist (PS) Buckey@operated the VVIS, and the data of Mission Specialist (MS) Williams and PS Jim Pawelczyk was acquired.

Mission Specialist Hire exchanged the data recording magnetic tape of the Vestibular Function Experiment Unit (VFEU).
