This is NASDA's January 2002 primary activity report for ISS astronauts
Furukawa, Hoshide, and Sumino.
Their activities included English and Russian language training, physical
training, technical activities, and interviews with various media.

Activities |
The NASDA/NASA JEM Joint Operations Panel (JJOP) #5 was held at NASDA
Tsukuba Space Center and headquarters. Issues concerning the operation
of Kibo, the Japanese Experiment Module, were discussed. Together with
operations engineers, the astronauts participated in the discussions from
the astronauts' viewpoint.

Astronaut Sumino visits her former
school. |
Astronaut Sumino visited her former girls' high school, which is attached
to Ochanomizu University, on January 12 where she made a speech on her dreams
of going to space. High school girls, teachers, alumnae and their family
members participated in the session with active discussions.

Astronaut Sumino participated in a talk event in Aichi prefecture with astronaut
Mohri on January 18.
Astronaut Mohri and Sumino discussed the dream of going to space and the
experiments conducted in space with the students selected out of elementary
schools and middle schools in Seto-city. Several middle schools and the
event hall were connected with a TV conference system using an intranet
facility. The event was closed successfully with questions, answers and
discussions.

Media Interviews. |
Public relations activity is one of the important responsibilities for the
astronauts. They have interviews with various media such as newspaper, TV,
or magazines, to help people understand space activities including training
and technical activities.
