From 10:00 a.m., in the auditorium of Kennedy Space Center press sight, the purpose of TCDT was explained to the media people, and Q&A followed as to the activities of launch support team and shuttle crew. No such opportunity ever being held for shuttle missions. However since many not experienced personnel come to cover the Senator Glenn's flight, such an event seems to have been held for this occasion. From 1:20 p.m. 30 minutes of interview opportunity was held following commander Brown's speech. Total fifteen questions were brought up and eleven of them were for Astronaut Glenn. The questions were like as follows. ・What can we expect from this mission and what will be the spinout? ・How this mission can contribute to the international space station, ISS? ・As a state Senator how does Astronaut Glenn evaluate spending budget for the ISS? ・How does he think of flying at his age? ・Isn't he just a passenger for this mission? ・What does he think of flying for the second time? For those questions Astronaut Glenn answered as follows. ・The results of this mission will widely be applied to all of the people. Taking BRIC or MEPS as examples he mentioned that the experiments planned for this flight are related to our daily life as well. ・ Cost performance for ISS or space projects are very high and it is an effective investment. ・ He is not just a passenger, but a scientific passenger. To the additional question as to how he feels flying together with Astronaut Mukai, he answered "I am very happy to work with her in space. In the SPACEHAB we will conduct experiments in the field of material science and life science." When Astronaut Mukai was asked a question as to what she expects for this flight, she answered in both Japanese and English "I am looking forward to the second time space flight. I am looking forward to working in space." |
