From the left, astronauts Pamela Melroy, pilot;Koichi Wakata, mission specialist representing Japan's National Space Development Agency (NASDA); and William McArthur, mission specialist, team up for some inflight maintenance on a temporarily extracted part of a flight deck panel.

Astronauts Peter J.K. (Jeff) Wisoff (left) and Koichi Wakata compare notes on Discovery's aft flight deck in this 35mm camera's low-angle view of STS-92 intravehicular activity. Wakata, it is safe to say, spent the majority of his mission assignment near this area, as he was basically in charge of the controls for the remote manipulator system (RMS), located on the nearby panel.

This scene on the aft flight deck of the Earth-orbiting Space Shuttle Discovery typifies action in the area during much of the shuttle intravehicular time for the STS-92 crew members. At the controls for the remote manipulator system (RMS) are astronauts William (Bill) McArthur (left) and Koichi Wakata,
