Achievements of the "Space Environment and Kibo Utilization Workshop (SEKUW)"

Last Updated: May 16, 2016

Space Environment and Kibo Utilization Workshop
(SEKUW)

National Planetarium, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia
April 18-19 2016

The Space Environment and Kibo Utilization Workshop (SEKUW) successfully convened at the National Planetarium, National Space Agency (ANGKASA), Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, from April 18 to 19, 2016. Approximately 50 participants from Malaysia, Singapore and Japan attended the SEKUW from 15 organizations such as research institutions, ministries, agencies and space related corporations. Valuable presentations on the space environment and the Kibo utilization were provided from the life sciences, agriculture, material sciences and space technology fields. During the SEKUW, researchers who have an idea of Kibo utilization met with JAXA specialists to get suggestions for implementing their ideas, especially for ExHAM (Exposed Experiment Handrail Attachment Mechanism) and J-SSOD (JEM Small Satellite Orbital Deployer) utilization.

The workshop concluded that all participants recognized the importance of information exchange in the Kibo-ABC/SEUWG/APRSAF community. Sharing information about space environment and the Kibo utilization, and the ideas and proposals regarding the Kibo utilization have to be discussed more intensively. A feasibility study of the proposals will start soon and the status of the study will be reported at APRSAF-23 in Manila, the Philippines.

It has been established that a workshop for space environment and Kibo utilization for Asia is a precious opportunity and an effective first step to achieve your ideas of Kibo utilization. We look forward to continuation of the workshop in the future.
