ISS Crew Briefing on SSAF2013

Last Updated: March 8, 2013

ISS astronauts Dr. Karen Nyberg and Dr. Koichi Wakata were briefed on scientific and educational significances and operational details of the "Space Seeds for Asian Future 2013 (SSAF2013)" program on February 19, 2013 at the Tsukuba Space Center of JAXA.

The SSAF2013 is the second joint space operation by the members of a Working Group of the Asia-Pacific Regional Space Agency Forum (APRSAF) and the first mission for its newly established Kibo-ABC initiative. In the mission, astronauts will grow seedlings of Azuki bean, or Red bean of Asian origin, under weightlessness. The young people on earth will nurture their own plants and learn how differently they grow. Not only in Asia-Pacific Region, young people from the other part of the world can also join to this program through the dedicated web site which will become available in April, 2013.
