According to 4-K supercooled superconducting detector,SMILES realises highly precised observation of Earth's atmospheric constituents than ever before.
Short-term harvest of JAXA's long-term plant growth experiment, SpaceSeed, was performed onboard Kibo over the night of October 13, 2009.
The Superconducting Submillimeter-Wave Limb-Emission Sounder (SMILES), jointly developed by JAXA and NICT, was installed on Kibo's Exposed Facility (EF) on September 25, 2009. Following the installation, the SMILES team activated the SMILES and began its initial function checkouts.
The Space Environment Data Acquisition equipment - Attached Payload(SEDA-AP) successfully completed initial checkouts and entered into its nominal operations phase.
JAXA's long-term plant growth experiment, Space Seed, began onboard Kibo.
On August 15, 2009, MAXI has successfully captured the First Light images.
