MAXI Discovers New X-ray Nova in Centaurs(October 22, 2010)

The Monitor of All-sky X-ray Image (MAXI) team discovered a new X-ray celestial body in the Centaurs constellation on October 17, 2010, through the image data captured by the MAXI. This is the second nova discovery by the MAXI following the discovery of J1659-152 on September 25, 2010.

The Monitor of All-Sky X-ray Image (MAXI) discovered an X-ray nova. The MAXI mission team promptly released the discovery to the world's astronomies and astronomical institutions.

Result of a joint research on a black hole X-ray nova, XTE J1752-223, which has been performed by Aoyaka Gakuin University and Riken, was presented at a press conference held at the Astronomical Society of Japan on September 21, 2010.
