This is NASDA's April 2002 primary activity
report for ISS astronauts Furukawa, Hoshide, and Sumino.

Astronaut Hoshide speaks in Kumamoto prefecture. | Astronaut
Hoshide made a speech entitled "You too can become an astronaut" in
Kumamoto prefecture in front of more than 500 school children, on April 6. He
politely answered many unique questions from children at the end of the speech.
After the speech, there was an opportunity to have intimate communications with
astronaut Hoshide in the lobby.

| Kibo's
Remote Manipulator System Safety Review | Kibo's
Remote Manipulator System safety review panel Phase III took place at the Tsukuba
Space Center in which the results of the investigations and tests to verify the
safety of various trouble cases were evaluated. The three astronauts attended
the safety review panel and stated their opinions from the view point of actual
Kibo users. |

and Technology Week. |

The Tsukuba Space Center, celebrated its 30th anniversary by opening to
the public on April 20 as one of the events of the Science and Technology Week
of Japan. Astronaut Hoshide participated in one of the events by making a short
speech. The room was charged with energy and was full of many people from children

| Astronaut
Furukawa a one day post office manager | To
celebrate the 69th anniversary of the General Post Office, astronaut Furukawa
served as a one-day manager of the Tsukuba Gakuen Post Office. This event was
planned the general public to become more familiar with space development. With
a smile, he handed out flowers and NASDA key holders to the visitors and sold
stamps at the sales counter.

Japanese astronauts' May activity report will be issued in the middle
of June. The third advanced training will be started in May; our three astronauts
are scheduled to attend.
