World Space Week Activity

LAPAN conducted the Space Science Festival on 7 October 2017 at Space Science Center - LAPAN office in Bandung, Jawa Barat―during world space week 2017. The festival has been an annual event since 2007, with the aim to increase the knowledge of students about discoveries that have been made in astronomy, space sciences, and technology, and also to introduce LAPAN's activities. The World Space Week theme for 2017 was "Exploring New Worlds in Space".

The Festival was open to the public so there were more than 250 participants consisting of students, teachers, and the general public who attended various activities, including(1) Coloring for Kids: Space Theme Coloring for Group, (2) Word Puzzle Competition: Space Theme, - (3) Space Quiz: - (4) Exploring New World Quiz, (5) Bazaar: - Demo Kit Module of Space and Atmosphere experiments - Mobile Planetarium-Giant Space Ludo - Sun Observation and (6) Exhibition: Astrophotography Competition.

There was also a talk show with the Indonesian astronaut and scientist, Prof. Pratiwi P. Sudarmono, who was selected to take part in the NASA Space Shuttle mission STS-61-H as a Payload Specialist in October 1985. She is currently the Vice Dean of the Faculty of Medicine Universitas Indonesia (FKUI) and is still an active lecturer of the Department of Microbiology, FKUI.

During the Festival, LAPAN announced the proposal which was selected for Asian Try Zero-G 2018, which was awarded to Laurentius Feliks Christmarines from Senior High School 1 Batam, Indonesia, with the proposal titled "Returning Trajectory of Paper Boomerang". The experiment will be conducted during the next JAXA Manned Space Mission on Kibo/ISS.
