ISS Astronauts Activity Report, March 2001

This is the March activity report of NASDA's ISS astronauts Furukawa and Hoshide, and astronaut candidate (ASCAN) Sumino.

Flight training
NASDA ASCAN Sumino received flight training using small aircraft(Cessna152) in Houston, Texas. This was the second flight training for her following the first training in May 2000.
The purpose of this training is to improve skills necessary as an astronaut, such as multitask handling, radio communication in English.

Cosmic College
They also attended the opening ceremony of the Cosmic College spring session and fielded questions from the children. Later, astronaut Furukawa attended the space scientists course and lectured on the zero-gravity environment facility. Astronaut Hoshide attended the astronaut training. Elementary and middle school students earnestly listened to them.

ISS astronauts Furukawa and Hoshide and ASCAN Sumino will receive ISS system training in April and May 2001 in Houston, Texas in the U.S.
This is a part of the advanced training in which astronauts from various countries learn together about ISS system details. One astronaut from the US, four from ESA, one from Russia, and three from Japan are expected to participate in the training.

The Japanese ISS astronauts' activity report of April will be issued in May.
